SDSU Football Helmet

With the new NCAA coach-to-player communication rule, build IT worked with the Head Football Equipment Manager of San Diego State University Football to improve a player's helmet by reducing crowd and other external noise.
Mariah Finley-Gardner and Jenny Wong-Welch of build IT protoypted a design that was 3D printed to cover the ear hole of the football helmet. The "3D Printed Audio Isolating Football Helmet Ear Plug" worked as a removable, flexable hole plug that could be securely placed into the Riddell Football helmet ear hole. Plug were made for each ear hole (left and right).
After the prototype was used during team practice, the 3D Printed Audio Isolating Football Helmet Ear Plug was implemented during a 2025 season game. The build IT staff were able to see the piece in action.
