Master Builders

Master Builders help run build IT @SDSU Library by volunteering their time to lead other students in the use and maintenance of the space; and thus, ensuring that the resources remain available to all.

Master Builders...

  • Have a passion for making
  • Enjoy exploring new uses of materials and equipment
  • Excel at problem-solving, learning, and teamwork
  • Love to share knowledge and learn from others
  • Are dedicated to safety and continuous learning
  • Want to be part of a growing community of makers

No skills or experience is required. Just a willingness to volunteer 3 hours per week

Why Join?

  • Lead and Inspire: Be part of a community that shares skills, ideas, and creativity.
  • Build Your Skills: Work on personal projects and learn new techniques as you complete the build IT Passport.
  • Shape the Space: Have a say in the resources and tools added to build IT, and be the first to explore new equipment
  • Exclusive Access: Get after-hours access to build IT once you complete the build IT Passport.

Master Builders are expected to:

  • Volunteer for one 3-hour shift each week throughout the semester.
  • Complete one documented project during the semester. This project is entirely driven by your own interests, and build IT staff will support you throughout the process.
There are three project milestones during the semester:
  1. Project Proposal
Describe your project idea. Submit a list of any supplies or materials you will need from build IT.
  2. Project Submission
Submit photos of your completed project. Write a brief description of your process and what you learned.
  3. Project Video
Create a video teaching others how to recreate your project. This may be a tutorial, time-lapse, project walkthrough, or another instructional format.
